The 5 Best Things to do in Denver in November

Our guide to the best things to do in Denver this November

By Dan Pag on November 6, 2016

November is a fascinating month in the Mile High City – there is still so much to do but this is the time when the weather can be a challenge. Never fear, it’s pretty rare that an event gets snowed out (we know how to handle our snow), and even less likely that an event will be cancelled due to cold temps (although it has happened on occasion when it gets extremely cold!).

Here our the top 5 things to do in Denver in November:

1. #OptOutside on Black Friday and go to a state park for free!

REI OptOutside

A couple years ago, Denver based REI decided to opt out of the Black Friday frenzy and close all 149 of their stores for the entire day. Since then, numerous entities have joined the cause, ans this year, all Colorado State Parks are waiving their admission fee, so get out and #OptOutside!

2. Turkey Trot

Turkey Trot

In it’s 43rd year, nearly 20,000 people participate in this long time Denver tradition. It’s a 4 mile walk / run, completely with some very creative costumes. So dress up and be ready for a great time, plus it benefits a great cause.

3. Grand Illumination

Parade of Lights Denver

This free event is an annual tradition in Denver. Help countdown to the magnificent Grand Illumination of the City and County building! Then, on the other side of the city, do the same with the newly renovated Union Station just a few minutes later. If you only have time to make it to one, I recommend the City and County building.

4. Drums of the World

Denver Center for the Performing Arts

Originally created to make use of the traditionally empty Boettcher Concert Hall during the Thanksgiving holiday week, Drums of the World has transformed from a side project to a huge sensation. Featuring every kind of drum you can imagine (and have never imagined), you’ll no doubt leave with a smile on your face.

5. Attend a Sporting Event

Colorado Avalanche Game

Denver is home to teams in all major sports, which makes November a great month to catch a game. Head over to Sports Authority Field at Mile High and watch the defending Super Bowl champs or, if sitting outside in November isn’t your thing, head to the Pepsi center and watch the Denver Nuggets or Colorado Avalanche.
